Coming off our recent, successful collaboration with Ultraviolet Productions (UVP), we were approached by UVP’s co-founder Aaron Rozanski on an exciting new project made specifically for social media platforms. In his own words:

“It’s a simple idea.

Ask a writer to dig a short text from their bottom desk drawer. A short story. A poem. A work-in-progress monologue.

Give this to a musician, who responds with an OST or soundscape.

Hand over to an artist, who provides a short series of drawings, photos, sculptures.

Then package this up into a tight two minute video, showcasing the interwoven work of multiple artists across three creative mediums.

Short-form stories for the social media age.

Working with artists our age – passionate 20-somethings who have shook off their grandparent’s disapproval and strive to fulfil their creative desires – I found a commonality between those committed to the grind. They are bursting with ideas: flash-in-the-pan, micro-concepts expressed through hastily scrawled 2am notes; day-dreaming doodles on a restaurant napkin; or whistled melodies on an evening walk.

I believe we should shine a light on these sparks of imagination, rather than forgetting them in the back of a notebook. To see this indirect collaboration between artists, writers, musicians and actors, responding to each other’s work without the hassle and process of full feature projects, is inspiring to sit and watch. It’s a pure, punchy process driven by that simple passion for storytelling; seeing it shine in all its forms can hopefully make social media a slightly brighter place.”

With extensive experience in inter-disciplinary collaboration and music production, ANTE Partner, Dylan Johns was a easy choice when asked to contribute to this format of creative collaboration. It is no easy task to indirectly collaborate. Relying in the artist’s instinct and unique interpretive abilities to create an accompaniment without communication, confidence and trust in the collectives’ abilities will also be tested.

UVP continues to find new ways to engage both artist and audience, and in this case, reminds us that creative challenges are not always our own.
