ANTE Collective were approached by Libertino Records, Wales’ biggest independent record label to produce, direct shoot, and edit a music video for upcoming electronic duo, Siula.
Siula is Llion Robertson (Cotton Wold) and Iqra Malik (Artshawty). Both hailing from Cardiff, Wales, they released the single, Fallen Angels, following on from the Feburary release, Night Falls on the World. Fallen Angels is the final single from their debut album Night Falls on the World, to be released in Summer 2025.
Iqra & Llion showed ANTE a mood board of their visual inspirations consisting of night time scenery, neon signage and 90’s indie movie aesthetics. We immediately felt Dylan, our executive ANTE partner was perfect for this job and quickly took on this challenge. He began work with the music duo by first discussing concepts and visual direction.
In early meetings with the artists, the concept of paying homage to Wong Kar Wai & the 90’s Hong Kong scene resonated the most with the client, particularly given the obvious connection between the single’s title and Wong Kar Wai’s 1995 cult classic, Fallen Angels. Inspired by the closeness achieved in Wong and Christopher Doyle’s work, Dylan choose to shoot with the use of wide-angle lenses and played with low frame rate in the edit. Flicking between colour and black and white and leaning into the graininess of the footage of the handheld footage also references the iconic cinematography from the movie.
The shoot took place across two days, the first with Iqra alone & the second scene with both Llion & Iqra on the bridge.
The video was released via the Libertino Records YouTube channel on 30 April
